Best Indonesian Song
And the top 3 is…
3. Andra and The Backbone - Sempurna

Imagine that you’re a girl, and the man who you love so much sing this song. You will fly into the 7th sky and bloom. Your face will turn red. Such a romantic song. The reason I put this song on number three is because this song is one of the most booming song in Indonesia. Well, everyone sing this song (and know this song), yet this song has a good quality of acoustic and arrangement, unlike the other booming song in Indonesia, such as “Tak Gendong” by Mbah Surip, or “Cari Jodoh” by Wali. Somehow, Andra and The Backbone fix the music quality of Indonesian artists.
By the time this song is being a hit, I have faith in Indonesian people that they still have a good ears for music.

Favourite part of the lyrics: “kau adalah darah ku, kau adalah jantungku, kau adalah hidupku…”
2. Chrisye - Matahari

He’s the bomb man, from Guruh Soekarno Putra to Ahmad Dhani, he’s a real musician. He can’t read notes, too sad God has took him away. The good thing about this particular song is, the mix of the instruments, he put everything together, from traditional instrument to a cappella, the vocal of Chrisye and the choir, they are amazing. Everything is neatly arranged and so extraordinary. Really different than the other Indonesian song nowadays. Yes Chrisye, you are the best musician in Indonesia! SALUTE

The Godfather's Ten Commandments
1. No one can present himself directly to another of our friends. There must be a third person to do it. 2. Never look at the wives of friends.

3. Never be seen with cops. 4. Don’t go to pubs and clubs.

5. Always be available for Cosa Nostra, even if your wife’s about to give birth. 6. Appointments must be respected.

7. Wives must be treated with respect. 8. When asked for any information, the answer must be the truth.

9. Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families. 10. People who can’t be part of Cosa Nostra are anyone with a close relative in the police, with a two-timing relative in the family, anyone who behaves badly and doesn’t hold to moral values.

10 Best Indonesian Song (1996-2009)
10. Disciples - Itu Namanya Cinta (that’s what I called Love)
why do I like this song? Quite a lot of reason. In 2008 music Industry in indonesia reached its peak. But not the peak of creativity, but peak of it’s quantity. Loads of those so called love song and all those pop-malay genre new band. This song criticize them quite hard.
The second thing that I like about this song is a mix of gospel and hip hop, very catchy tune, nice quality of voice, specially the keyboard beat plus saykoji’s rap. Great.

Favourite part of lyric: “orang orang pun dibuat tergila-gila, jadi lebih hafal lagu daripada pancasila”
9. Efek Rumah Kaca - Cinta Melulu (Love Song Again)
A controversial band that always talking about national and earth’s issues. What else can I say, it is right, we always listening to a typical love song. Actually, most of ERK’s songs are in my top ten list. Things I love about this song is because of its music and video clip. Very different, very creative, very realistic lyrics. Bravo ERK, your song has crossed the border :D

Favourite part of lyric: “atas nama pasar semuanya begitu klise”

8. Soulvibe - Your Smile
This song has become my favourite song since my friend, Paulus, sang it at the back of our class. He’s practicing his performance for my friend’s birthday. Soulvibe is one of the best groovy-jazz band I’ve ever saw (and heard). In this song, they got the beat, the lyrics (it match my situation), the arrangement is quite common but yeah, I love this song, it catches my ears.

Favourite part of lyric: “adakah cara tuk hilang darimu, karena ku tahu kau bukan milikku”
7. The S.I.G.I.T - Soul Sisters
I don’t know how to describe this song, really really good rock band, very different, this is what I called music.

Favourite part of lyric: “she don’t know what she is, is she he or is she she?”
6. Slank - Full Moon Blues
This song reminds me of my dive buddy, Rizal. First time I hear it at Java Jazz Festival. Really love the way Abdee (guitarist) and Kaka (singer) bringing the rhythm together, with a little touch from Tony Monaco. If you heard this song, your imagination will gone wild. Seriously, especially when you were at the beach or on an island, together with your lover. You will remember everything you’ve done together back then. A wicked song for lovers, as always, by Slank.

Favourite part of lyrics: “kita telanjang di bawah sinar bulan, peluhku bercampur dengan air lautan”

5. Barry Likumahuwa’s Project - Scholastica
Well I can’t show you the video of this song, well actually this is one of the best song I’ve ever heard. Barry likumahuwa’s project was one of the best Jazz band in Indonesia. With the formation of Barry Likumahuwa (Bassist), Henry Budidharma (Guitarist, Glenn Fredly’s ex-guitarist), Jonas Wang (Drum), Matthew Sayresz (Vocal), Donny Joesran (Keyboard) and Nicky Manuputty (Saxophone) this band is perfect! I love every song they play, but my favourite is Scholastica. A very well arranged music, smooth and easy listening, even though that you don’t really understand Jazz, you will love it anyway. Don’t worry about the skill they all got it! This song is Awesome!
If you want to know how awesome they are, you might fancy watching this video:

Favourite part of lyrics: “Dan tanpa kusadari, dirimu hadir disini, bawakan cinta yang sempurna di dada” (the only words they sing)
4. Sore - No Fruits for Today
Centralismo, is a new genre of album on my ears. A bit oldies music, 40s, a bit heavy but the lyrics are very different than any other love song. The instruments are not very bad, but I don’t know why, this song has a massive arrangement, that’s why it’s heavy, and the force of mysticism in this song is quite aggressively dancing on my ears. It seems like I’ve been back to the past by time machine. Yet again, Sore, you are one of Indonesia’s greatest band!

Favourite part of lyrics: “I love you when you love me and we’re gonna make a big family”

To be continued… (no 1, 2, 3)
Honorable Mention:
-Maliq and D’essentials - Terdiam
-Agrikulture - Kompor Meledug
-Warkop DKI - Nyanyian Kode
-Glenn Fredly - Tega
